Ruet-i-Hilal Committee to Convene Tomorrow for Zilhaj Moon Sighting

The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee will meet tomorrow (Friday) to sight the Zilhaj moon, which will determine the dates for Eid ul Azha 2025 in Pakistan. According to an official announcement, the session will be held in Karachi, led by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the committee’s chairman.

Zonal committees across the country will also hold simultaneous meetings at their respective locations to collect evidence of the moon sighting. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has indicated a strong possibility of the Zilhaj moon being visible on Friday, May 31, 2025.

If the moon is sighted, Zilhaj 1 will begin on June 1, and Eid ul Azha will fall on June 10, 2025. However, if not sighted, the month will start on June 2, placing Eid on June 11.

The sighting of the Zilhaj moon holds significant religious importance for Muslims, as it leads up to Hajj and Eid ul Azha, the festival of sacrifice. This period also includes key Islamic rituals such as the Day of Arafah on the 9th of Zilhaj, observed with fasting and prayers.

The public has been urged to report any moon sightings to the nearest Ruet-i-Hilal committee office, and the final decision will be announced after thorough verification from multiple locations.

This year, the moon sighting is expected to garner wide public attention amid rising anticipation and preparations for the second major Islamic festival of the year.
