Mastung, Balochistan – June 20, 2025: A fresh wave of unrest struck Mastung district on Tuesday night, as unidentified assailants torched several government buildings and attacked a Levies post, sparking serious security concerns in the already volatile region.
According to official sources, attackers targeted offices including the Assistant Commissioner’s office, Tehsildar office, Education Department, and Revenue records room, setting them ablaze. The incident took place late at night and continued into early morning hours.
Levies Checkpost Also Targeted
In a separate but seemingly coordinated incident, a Levies Force checkpost in the Killi Karez area was attacked with automatic weapons. A gun battle reportedly lasted over 30 minutes, but no casualties were reported. Security forces later launched a search operation in the surrounding areas.
Officials Confirm Deliberate Sabotage
Local authorities confirmed that valuable records, equipment, and infrastructure were completely destroyed in the fires.
“This was a deliberate attempt to paralyze the district’s administrative functions and spread panic among residents,” said a senior district official on condition of anonymity.
The District Police Officer (DPO) and Deputy Commissioner visited the sites and vowed swift action against the perpetrators.
No Group Claims Responsibility Yet
As of the time of reporting, no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks. However, officials suspect militant or separatist elements may be behind the coordinated sabotage, given the pattern of previous attacks on government targets in southwestern Balochistan.
The region has witnessed a surge in violence, including attacks on security forces and infrastructure, as militant outfits seek to destabilize government presence.
Provincial Government Responds
The Balochistan Home Department issued a statement condemning the attacks and directed law enforcement agencies to enhance security around key installations across the province.
“We will not allow anti-state elements to disrupt administrative operations or intimidate the public,” the statement read.
Growing Concerns Over Balochistan’s Security Situation
These latest incidents have reignited debate about the fragile security landscape in Balochistan, where targeted attacks on state infrastructure have become alarmingly frequent.
Civil society groups and human rights advocates have called on the government to improve intelligence operations, strengthen local policing, and address political grievances through inclusive dialogue.
