Quetta – June 20, 2025: At least five people lost their lives and seven others sustained injuries after a passenger bus caught fire following a collision with a petrol-carrying rickshaw on Quetta’s Sariab Road on Thursday evening.
According to rescue officials and eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when the bus, en route to Sibi, collided with a three-wheeler carrying fuel canisters, triggering a massive explosion and fire that quickly engulfed the vehicle.

Emergency teams from Edhi Foundation, Rescue 1122, and fire brigade units responded swiftly but struggled to control the blaze due to the flammable material.
Victims and Medical Response
The deceased include three men and two women, while seven others, including children, suffered burn injuries and were shifted to Civil Hospital Quetta, where two are said to be in critical condition.
“We tried to break the windows to save those inside, but the fire spread too fast,” said a local shopkeeper who witnessed the tragedy.
Investigation Underway
Police confirmed that a case has been registered, and an investigation is ongoing to determine whether the rickshaw was operating illegally or without safety protocols. The rickshaw driver died on the spot, according to initial reports.
Authorities are also reviewing safety violations, as transporting fuel in passenger areas is strictly prohibited under traffic and transport laws.
