In a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Heads of State Summit, Pakistan and China reaffirmed their strategic partnership, vowing enhanced cooperation in security, agriculture, and regional stability, according to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Office.
The meeting between Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chinese counterpart Wang Yi underlined the longstanding partnership between the two nations, especially amid regional geopolitical shifts and shared economic ambitions.
Focus Areas: Security, Agriculture, and Economic Synergy
During the discussion:
- Both sides reiterated commitment to counter-terrorism cooperation
- Emphasis was placed on intelligence sharing and border management to combat transnational threats
- Agricultural collaboration was also prioritized, particularly under the second phase of CPEC, with goals to improve food security, crop technology, and irrigation systems
“China will continue to stand firmly with Pakistan to protect its national interests and security,” said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
CPEC and Regional Connectivity
China welcomed Pakistan’s ongoing infrastructure and regulatory reforms, which have helped stabilize the economy and pave the way for:
- New CPEC projects in agri-tech, logistics, and energy
- Enhanced cross-border trade via the Khunjerab Pass and Gwadar Port
- Expanded joint research on climate resilience and desert agriculture
Foreign Minister Dar emphasized Pakistan’s “Look East” policy, which aligns closely with Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Mutual Backing in Multilateral Forums
China appreciated Pakistan’s continued support on issues such as:
- Taiwan, Xinjiang, and South China Sea
- Pakistan expressed thanks for China’s support on Kashmir and UN Security Council diplomacy
The ministers also agreed to work together for a peaceful resolution of conflicts in the Middle East, Afghanistan, and promote stability through the SCO platform.
