District Official Hidayatulah Buledi Martyred in Surab Amid Escalating Terrorism in Balochistan

Surab, Balochistan, May 30, 2025 — In a tragic incident highlighting the escalating security challenges in Balochistan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Hidayatullah Buledi was martyred during a terrorist attack on his residence in Surab city. The assault, which occurred on Friday, also involved the looting of a local bank and attacks on the homes of several other government officials.

According to Balochistan Government Spokesperson Shahid Rind, the assailants targeted Buledi’s home, where women and children were present at the time. Buledi valiantly defended his family and property, ultimately sacrificing his life in the process. Rind hailed Buledi’s actions as a “new example of bravery,” emphasizing the official’s commitment to his duties even in the face of mortal danger.

The coordinated nature of the attacks, which included the looting of a bank and assaults on multiple officials’ residences, suggests a deliberate attempt to undermine state authority in the region. Rind attributed the attacks to “Indian-sponsored proxies,” asserting that these elements are acting on behalf of India to destabilize the province. He confirmed that a search operation is underway, with Frontier Corps and Levies personnel deployed to the area.

In a separate statement, Rind mentioned that geo-fencing technology is being utilized to track down the perpetrators. This incident adds to the growing list of terrorist activities in Balochistan, a province that has seen a significant uptick in violence over the past year.

The security situation in Balochistan has been deteriorating, with militants intensifying their attacks. The outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has been particularly active, adopting new tactics to inflict higher casualties and directly target Pakistani security forces. In March, the Jaffar Express train was hijacked near Balochistan’s Sibi area, resulting in the deaths of 26 hostages, including 18 security personnel. Five more security personnel were martyred during the operation.

Despite a temporary improvement in April 2025, where both militant attacks and resultant casualties dropped sharply compared to March, the overall trend remains concerning. Pakistan ranked second in the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with the number of deaths in terrorist attacks rising by 45 percent over the past year to 1,081.

The martyrdom of ADC Hidayatullah Buledi underscores the persistent threats faced by government officials in Balochistan. His sacrifice serves as a stark reminder of the challenges in maintaining law and order in regions plagued by insurgency and external interference.
