Karachi Braces for Scorching Heat: Temperatures Expected to Exceed 40°C Amid Heatwave Conditions

Karachi, May 29, 2025 — Residents of Karachi are preparing for an intense heatwave as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts temperatures soaring to 41°C on Friday. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 38.5°C today, with the “feels-like” temperature reaching a sweltering 51°C around 1 PM due to high humidity levels at 42%.

The PMD has issued a weather advisory indicating that gusty winds are expected to hit the port city tomorrow. The sea breeze is anticipated to remain partially suspended over the next two days, allowing hot winds from the west to dominate, exacerbating the heat conditions.

These conditions are part of a broader pattern affecting much of Sindh, where hot to very hot and dry weather is prevailing. The PMD notes that May is typically one of the peak summer months in the region, and Karachi is among the hottest cities during this period.

In addition to the heatwave, the National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has reported the presence of at least five active weather systems across the country, bringing thunderstorms, gusty winds, hailstorms, and heavy rainfall to various regions, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and parts of Punjab .

Public Advisory:
Authorities urge residents to take necessary precautions during this period of extreme heat:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
  • Avoid direct exposure to sunlight, especially during peak hours.
  • Wear light and breathable clothing.
  • Limit outdoor activities and remain indoors when possible.
  • Check on vulnerable individuals, including the elderly and children.
