The Lahore High Court (LHC) has rejected all eight bail applications filed by former prime minister Imran Khan in connection with the May 9, 2023, riots. A two-member bench led by Justice Shahbaz Ali Rizvi delivered the reserved verdict on Tuesday after extended hearings from both the prosecution and defense.
The bail petitions included cases relating to the attack on Jinnah House, Askari Tower, Shadman Police Station arson, Sherpao Bridge incident, Rahat Bakery attack, Mughalpura violence, rioting in Zaman Park, and other charges arising from PTI-led protests and violence against military installations.
Prosecutors argued that Imran Khan had incited PTI supporters to target sensitive military and government sites. They also highlighted his refusal to undergo polygraph and photogrammetric tests despite court orders. In contrast, defense counsel Barrister Salman Safdar maintained that Khan was not involved and was already in custody at the time, alleging political motivations behind the case.
This rejection follows an earlier refusal by an Anti-Terrorism Court on November 27, 2024, when bail was denied in the same cases. Imran Khan remains incarcerated, facing multiple legal proceedings across the country.
