Pakistan and Turkiye Unite in Istanbul, Urge Immediate Gaza Ceasefire and Unimpeded Humanitarian Aid

In a significant diplomatic engagement on May 25, 2025, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Turkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan convened in Istanbul to address the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The leaders jointly called for an immediate ceasefire and the facilitation of unimpeded humanitarian aid to the besieged Palestinian enclave.

The meeting underscored the deepening humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, where over 53,900 Palestinians have lost their lives since the onset of Israel’s military operations in October 2023, following a cross-border attack by Hamas. The World Health Organization reports that nearly half a million individuals in Gaza are facing catastrophic levels of hunger, with more than 93% of children at risk of famine.

During their discussions, Sharif and Erdoğan emphasized the urgency of halting hostilities and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian assistance without obstruction. They expressed profound concern over the dire conditions faced by Gaza’s 2.1 million residents, many of whom are confined to increasingly limited areas due to ongoing military actions.

The leaders’ joint statement highlighted the necessity of international cooperation to address the crisis and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the Palestinian people. They called upon the global community to intensify efforts to facilitate a sustainable resolution to the conflict and to uphold the principles of international humanitarian law.
