Pakistan to Celebrate Eidul Azha on June 7 as Zilhaj Moon Remains Unseen

Islamabad, May 27, 2025 — The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced that the Zilhaj moon was not sighted across Pakistan on Tuesday evening. Consequently, the first day of Zilhaj 1446 AH will be observed on Thursday, May 29, and Eidul Azha will be celebrated on Saturday, June 7.

The committee’s meeting, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, took place in Islamabad’s Kohsar Block, with representatives from the Pakistan Meteorological Department and SUPARCO in attendance. Despite clear skies in some regions, no credible moon sighting reports were received from any part of the country.

SUPARCO had earlier predicted that the new moon’s birth would occur on May 27 at 8:02 PM PST, making it unlikely to be visible that evening due to its young age and brief visibility window.

Eidul Azha, observed on the 10th of Zilhaj, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command. The festival involves special prayers and the ritual sacrifice of animals, with the meat distributed among family, friends, and those in need.

In Islamabad, the weather forecast for June 7 predicts very hot conditions, with temperatures reaching up to 113°F (45°C) and a low of 83°F (28°C). Residents are advised to take necessary precautions during the festivities.
