Legend of Pakistan Cricket: Sana Mir Becomes First Pakistani Woman Inducted into ICC Hall of Fame

London, June 9, 2025 — Former Pakistan women’s cricket captain Sana Mir etched her name in sporting history on Monday by becoming the first Pakistani female cricketer to be enshrined in the ICC Hall of Fame .

The accolade was presented during a ceremony preceding the World Test Championship final in London, where Mir was inducted alongside global cricket icons like MS Dhoni, Sarah Taylor, Hashim Amla, Graeme Smith, Matthew Hayden, and Daniel Vettori.

Over her 15-year international career from 2005 to 2019, Mir led Pakistan to historic milestones—including two Asian Games gold medals, topping the ICC ODI bowling rankings in 2018, and becoming the first Pakistani woman to claim 100 ODI wickets. She finished her career with 151 ODI and 89 T20I wickets, also becoming the first Asian woman to play 100 T20Is.

The ICC hailed her as “inspirational and impactful,” praising not only her on-field statistics but also her advocacy for mental health, body positivity, and women’s empowerment. Mir’s journey from playing on Lahore streets to receiving a Hall of Fame cap has become a source of inspiration for aspiring female cricketers across Pakistan.

At the grand event, Mir reflected emotively:

“From dreaming as a little girl that one day there would even be a women’s team in our country… this is a moment I couldn’t have dared to imagine.”

Her induction not only celebrates individual excellence but also marks a watershed moment for gender representation in Pakistani cricket. She now joins an elite group of just 15 women and becomes the eighth Pakistani overall to be honoured in the ICC Hall of Fame
