Sindh Launches Anti-Polio Campaign Targeting Over 10 Million Children
On May 26, 2025, the Sindh government will initiate a comprehensive five-day anti-polio vaccination campaign aiming to immunize more than 10.6 million children under the age of five across all 30 districts of the province. This large-scale effort will involve over 80,000 trained polio workers conducting door-to-door visits, supported by more than 25,000 law enforcement personnel to ensure maximum coverage, even in the most remote and hard-to-access areas.
In addition to the polio vaccine, children between the ages of 6 and 59 months will receive Vitamin A supplements to bolster their immune systems.
This campaign marks the third major polio drive in Sindh for 2025, following previous rounds in February and April. The urgency of this initiative is underscored by the recent detection of two new polio cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat and Bannu districts, bringing the national total to 10 cases this year, with four reported in Sindh alone.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has emphasized the importance of accountability and collective action to combat the resurgence of polio. The campaign will be conducted across 1,292 union councils, with close collaboration between district administrations, healthcare workers, and community partners. Public engagement is a key focus, with appeals to parents, teachers, religious leaders, and media outlets to support the vaccination effort. Citizens are encouraged to report any missed children or vaccine-related concerns through a dedicated helpline and WhatsApp service to ensure no child is left unimmunized.
Simultaneously, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is launching its own five-day anti-polio drive targeting approximately 7.3 million children. These coordinated efforts across provinces highlight Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to eradicating polio and safeguarding future generations from this preventable disease.
