Malakand, June 5, 2025 — Tragedy struck in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Malakand district on Thursday when three individuals, including a child, drowned while bathing in a canal to escape the intense heat. Rescue 1122 officials reported that four people were retrieved from the canal, with one survivor transported to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Dargai.
The deceased have been identified as 32-year-old Alamzeb, 26-year-old Mohammad Bilal, and 6-year-old Arman Khan. The survivor, 17-year-old Salman Khan, is currently receiving medical treatment.
In a separate incident in Upper Dir’s Gandigar area, the body of seminary student Mohammad Hilal Khan was recovered from a river. He had been missing for three days, and a joint search operation by Rescue 1122 and civil defence personnel led to the discovery.
These incidents highlight the dangers of swimming in natural water bodies, especially during periods of extreme heat. Authorities urge the public to exercise caution and avoid unsupervised swimming in canals and rivers.
