Lakki Marwat – June 27, 2025: In a significant counterterrorism development, three suspected terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation conducted by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The operation was launched in the early hours of the morning in the Takhtikhel area, following a tip-off about the presence of militants allegedly planning a major attack.
CTD Thwarts Possible Terror Plot
According to police sources and CTD officials:
- A firefight broke out after the suspects opened fire on the raiding team
- All three suspects were neutralized on the spot
- A cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives was recovered from the scene
- No casualties were reported among law enforcement personnel
“The terrorists were affiliated with a banned outfit and were planning subversive activities in southern KP,” a CTD official stated.
The operation is part of a broader campaign to eliminate sleeper cells and terror networks operating in the province’s volatile districts.
Terrorism Resurgence in KP
The region has seen a spike in terrorist activities in recent months, particularly in Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, and Lakki Marwat. Militants have targeted:
- Police personnel
- Military checkposts
- Civilians in markets and transport hubs
Security forces have responded with intensified search-and-clear operations, often backed by aerial surveillance and intelligence input.
Continued Security Alert
In light of recent attacks, authorities have placed key installations, mosques, and public places under high alert as the country approaches Muharram, a period historically vulnerable to sectarian and terror incidents.
The government has reiterated its resolve to eliminate terrorism in all forms, and the CTD continues to coordinate with provincial and federal intelligence agencies.
