Defence Minister Asif Slams Western Hypocrisy, Says Iran Never Initiated War With Israel

Islamabad – June 20, 2025: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has strongly criticized what he called the West’s “selective morality” and hypocrisy in the face of escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, asserting that Iran has never initiated war, and has only acted in self-defense.

In a statement issued to the press, Asif condemned recent global reactions to Iranian retaliation against Israeli aggression, calling them “one-sided and morally bankrupt.”

“Iran has never launched a war against Israel. It has always responded to aggression. The West’s silence on Israel’s repeated provocations exposes its double standards,” said Asif.

Context: Iran-Israel Fire Exchange

The statement comes amid rising tensions following Iran’s missile attack targeting Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, which Tehran claimed was in retaliation for the killing of IRGC members in Damascus by Israeli forces. The exchange has drawn intense international scrutiny and calls for de-escalation.

While Western nations—including the US, UK, and EU allies—condemned Iran’s response, few directly addressed Israel’s prior airstrikes or the broader context of the long-standing confrontation between the two regional powers.

Pakistan Urges Neutral Diplomacy

Asif called on global powers to adopt a more balanced and just approach to conflict resolution in the Middle East.

“Selective outrage undermines global stability and fuels further conflict. International law must apply equally to all nations,” he added.

Pakistan has historically advocated for non-interventionist foreign policy, while supporting peaceful diplomatic resolutions to conflicts in the Islamic world, including the Palestinian cause and broader Middle East crises.

Criticism of Western Media Narrative

The minister also lashed out at Western media outlets for framing Iran as the aggressor, while ignoring Israel’s repeated military operations in Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine.

“The global media landscape is complicit in shaping a narrative that criminalizes resistance and glorifies occupation,” he said.

Regional Implications

Khawaja Asif’s statement aligns with sentiments echoed by several Muslim-majority nations, many of whom view Iran’s recent moves as part of a larger struggle against Israeli militarism and regional hegemony. Analysts say Pakistan’s position reflects its effort to balance diplomatic neutrality while projecting solidarity with the Islamic world.
