Peshawar, June 9, 2025 — The festive spirit of Eidul‑Azha turned somber in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as Rescue 1122 officials confirmed that 55 people lost their lives and approximately 50 others were injured in various incidents across the province during the three-day holiday . The tragedies included a cluster of road accidents, fire outbreaks, drownings, and firearm-related events.

Rescue 1122’s consolidated report reveals:

  • 1,999 emergency responses handled, including 1,400 medical emergencies, 349 traffic crashes, 112 fire incidents, six drowning cases, 82 recovery missions, and 50 crime-related emergencies.
  • Peshawar: 13 fatalities; 418 emergency calls—43 accidents, 338 medical cases, 20 fires, 8 firearm injuries; 431 patients transferred.
  • Mardan: 14 people killed.
  • Other affected districts include Haripur (6); Nowshera, Hangu, Kurram (3 each); and Dera Ismail Khan, Abbottabad, Bannu, Buner, Battagram (2 each); Torghar, Kohat, Khyber (1 each).

Rescue 1122 spokesperson, Bilal Ahmad Faizi, said dedicated water‑rescue teams were positioned near rivers and dams, while special medical camps were set up at key tourist sites to protect both locals and visitors.

This significant death toll during the Eid holidays highlights ongoing concerns regarding road safety, water rescue preparedness, and fire prevention. Authorities are urged to reinforce enforcement of safety regulations, increase public awareness, and improve emergency infrastructure especially during heavy travel seasons.
