Two Policemen Martyred in Terrorist Attack on Bannu Police Checkpoint

In a tragic incident on May 21, 2025, two police officers were martyred and another injured when terrorists attacked a police checkpoint in Bannu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The assailants launched the assault using hand grenades and advanced weaponry, causing significant damage to the checkpoint and nearby shops.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed confirmed the casualties, stating that the prompt response by the police prevented further destruction. Regional Police Officer Sajjad Khan added that several terrorists were killed and injured as the police retaliated against the attack.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack, expressing condolences to the families of the martyred officers and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. He praised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police for their continued sacrifices and vital role in combating terrorism in the region.

This attack underscores the ongoing security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where terrorist activities have surged following the end of a ceasefire by the proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in November 2022. The TTP has since vowed to target security forces, police, and law enforcement agencies personnel.
