Lachin, Azerbaijan – May 28, 2025
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and dialogue during the Pakistan-Türkiye-Azerbaijan Trilateral Summit held in Lachin, Azerbaijan. Addressing Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye and Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, PM Shehbaz emphasized the importance of resolving longstanding issues through sincere and constructive engagement.
“We desire peace in the region,” PM Shehbaz stated. “This necessitates earnest discussions on pressing matters, particularly the Kashmir dispute, in alignment with United Nations resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.”
The Prime Minister highlighted Pakistan’s openness to dialogue with India on counterterrorism efforts, noting the country’s significant sacrifices in combating terrorism. “Pakistan has endured the loss of 90,000 lives and economic damages exceeding $150 billion due to terrorism,” he remarked. “If India approaches counterterrorism discussions with genuine intent, Pakistan is prepared to engage.”
PM Shehbaz also addressed concerns over India’s actions regarding the Indus Waters Treaty, describing attempts to alter the treaty as “unfortunate” and emphasizing its critical importance to Pakistan’s agriculture and water supply.
The trilateral summit underscored the shared commitment of Pakistan, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan to regional stability and cooperation. The leaders agreed to enhance collaboration in various sectors, including trade, defense, and cultural exchange, and to support each other in international forums.
This meeting marked a significant step in strengthening ties among the three nations, with plans for future summits to further solidify their partnership and address mutual concerns.
