Eight Injured in Colorado Flamethrower Attack at Pro-Israeli Rally; FBI Investigates as Terrorism
Boulder, Colorado, June 2, 2025 — A peaceful rally in support of Israeli hostages turned violent on Sunday when a man attacked participants with a makeshift flamethrower and incendiary devices, injuring eight individuals. The incident occurred at the Pearl Street Mall during a weekly event organized by “Run for Their Lives,” a group advocating for the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza.
The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman, an Egyptian national who had overstayed his visa, reportedly shouted “Free Palestine” while launching the attack. He was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody facing multiple felony charges, including attempted murder and use of incendiary devices.
The victims, aged between 52 and 88, sustained varying degrees of burns, with at least one individual in critical condition. Among the injured is an 88-year-old Holocaust survivor.
Authorities, including the FBI and the Department of Justice, are treating the incident as an act of terrorism and a possible hate crime. The attack has heightened concerns within the Jewish community and prompted increased security measures at similar events nationwide.
This incident follows a series of attacks linked to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, including a recent fatal shooting outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C.
