Petrol to Rise Rs 1/Litre, Diesel to Jump Rs 5/Litre in Next Fortnight

Islamabad/Karachi, June 14, 2025 — The federal government has announced a fresh increase in petroleum prices for the fortnight beginning June 16. Petrol will rise by Re 1 per litre, bringing the ex-depot price to approximately Rs 253/L, while diesel will surge by Rs 5, reaching around Rs 260/L, according to sources within the Finance Division .

Currently, the ex-depot price for petrol stands at Rs 252.63/L, and for high-speed diesel (HSD) at Rs 254.64/L.

Taxes and Levies

Consumers shoulder nearly Rs 94/L in taxes, comprising:

  • Petroleum Development Levy (PDL): Rs 78.02/L on petrol; Rs 77.01/L on HSD
  • Customs duty: Rs 16/L
  • Distributor/dealer margin: ~Rs 17/L

Why Prices Are Rising

The uptick reflects a rise in international crude rates following global tension, notably Israel’s actions against Iran, which increased Brent crude by approximately $2/barrel. Combined with the new Rs 2.5/L carbon levy from the 2025–26 budget, transportation and food costs are expected to rise further.
