Karachi Welcomes First Seasonal Shower as Heatwave Breaks
Karachi recorded its first seasonal rain this week, bringing a brief respite after days of intense heat. According to the Met Office, light showers swept through several neighbourhoods, including Malir, Gadap and North Karachi, temporarily cooling the city and offering relief to residents .
This unseasonal rain comes amid a regional heatwave that has seen temperatures in Karachi soar into the upper 30s and low 40s Celsius, with humidity levels making it feel even hotter .
Local authorities have noted minor disruptions, including temporary power outages and street flooding in low-lying areas. However, most residents welcomed the rain as it helped reduce indoor temperatures and offered a short relief from the extreme heat .
The Met Office cautions that the heatwave is not over—temperatures are expected to remain 4–6°C above normal through this week. Still, today’s rain is a welcome meteorological break and may help alleviate the stress of the ongoing heat conditions.
