Former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday, has been discharged from the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur after being admitted for fatigue. His office confirmed that he returned home at 4:45 p.m. local time on Sunday following a precautionary observation.
Mahathir, who served as Malaysia’s prime minister for a total of 24 years, had participated in a picnic event marking both his centennial and his wife Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali’s 99th birthday. Local reports noted that Mahathir cycled for nearly an hour before showing signs of tiredness.
A trained physician and one of Southeast Asia’s most influential leaders, Mahathir has faced recurring health issues, including past hospitalizations for heart and respiratory conditions. His most recent prior hospital stay was in October due to a respiratory infection.
Despite his age and health challenges, Mahathir continues to engage actively in public events and political commentary, symbolizing his enduring influence in Malaysia’s political landscape.
