Bushehr, Iran – June 11, 2025 — A major fire erupted at the Kaveh Petrochemical Complex in Bandar-e Deyr, Bushehr province, resulting in at least three fatalities and injuring up to ten others, according to Iranian state media.

The blaze started around 11 a.m. local time during welding operations on a methanol storage tank at the facility’s port, which triggered an explosion, said Kourosh Dehghani, head of provincial crisis management. Thick black smoke enveloped the site as firefighters rushed to contain the flames, assisted by specialized emergency and medical crews.

Local officials warn that the death toll could rise. Dr. Seyed Hossein Mousavi of Bushehr’s emergency services confirmed ten individuals were hospitalized, with injuries ranging from minor to serious.

The governor of Deyr County, Alireza Sajadi, stated the blaze has been controlled and is no longer spreading. The facility, which annually produces over two million tonnes of methanol, is considered a key component of Iran’s petrochemical export industry.

This incident comes just weeks after a massive explosion at Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas, which claimed dozens of lives and underscored growing concerns regarding industrial safety in southern Iran. Investigations are underway to determine if negligence or technical failures contributed to the accident.
