Government Declares Four-Day Eid ul Azha Holidays Across Pakistan

Islamabad – May 31, 2025: The federal government of Pakistan has officially announced a four-day holiday on the occasion of Eid ul Azha 2025, providing the public an extended break to celebrate one of the most significant Islamic festivals.

According to the notification issued by the Cabinet Division, holidays will be observed from Monday, June 17 to Thursday, June 20, allowing citizens ample time to offer Eid prayers, perform the Qurbani (ritual animal sacrifice), and spend quality time with family and friends.

This year, Eid ul Azha is expected to fall on Tuesday, June 18, subject to the sighting of the Zilhajj moon. Traditionally, the festival is marked on the 10th day of Zilhajj, the final month in the Islamic lunar calendar, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to Allah’s command.

The extended holidays are expected to boost domestic travel and tourism, with many families planning trips to their hometowns or popular vacation destinations across Pakistan. Transport companies, hotels, and tourist spots have already reported a surge in bookings ahead of the break.

The Eid ul Azha holidays are also crucial for businesses dealing in livestock, meat processing, and packaging, as the Qurbani process generates significant economic activity. Farmers and traders in animal markets (mandis) are anticipating peak sales in the days leading up to Eid.

Security measures across major cities and rural areas are expected to be tightened to ensure peaceful celebrations. Local administrations are coordinating with law enforcement agencies for crowd control in cattle markets and to manage traffic during prayer congregations.

Meanwhile, health and sanitation departments have been instructed to manage the disposal of animal waste, a recurring challenge during Eid festivities in urban centers like Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.

The announcement was welcomed by the general public, especially government employees and school-going children, as it aligns with the annual tradition of multiple-day Eid holidays.

With the long break confirmed, several private organizations are also likely to follow suit, extending the time off for their employees to facilitate travel and family gatherings.

As the festive spirit builds across the country, citizens are preparing to celebrate with joy, while remembering the religious significance and charitable aspects of Ei dul Azha.
