Rising Temperatures and Gusty Winds Expected Across Sindh for the Next 48 Hours
Karachi Braces for 40°C Heat Amid Dry, Hot Conditions: PMD Forecasts Strong Winds
Karachi: The mercury in the city is expected to rise to 40°C on Sunday (today), with hot and dry conditions continuing for the next three days, as per the latest forecast by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The Met Office warned that Karachiites should prepare for intense heat and intermittent strong winds, which are forecasted to sweep through the city today and tomorrow. This weather pattern is part of a broader heat spell impacting much of Sindh, where most areas will remain hot, and some regions could experience dangerously high temperatures.
The heatwave comes after a week of steadily increasing temperatures in the city. On Thursday, the PMD predicted highs between 37°C and 39°C for Friday and Saturday, and the forecast proved accurate as conditions worsened with rising heat.
Earlier in the week, Karachi’s temperature reached a peak of 38.1°C on Tuesday, with a humidity level of 53% and light winds from the north.
Chief Meteorologist Muhammad Afzal had previously warned that rising temperatures across the country are expected to persist in the coming months, aggravated by the urban heat island effect in cities like Karachi, which have dense populations.
Afzal cautioned that temperatures nationwide could remain 2°C to 3°C above normal, with Karachi seeing rises of up to 4°C above the seasonal average. This intensifying heat could increase drought risks and severely impact daily life.
As the temperature continues to climb, the PMD has urged residents to take precautionary measures, such as staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activities during peak hours, and conserving water to help reduce pressure on public resources.
