Sanaullah Warns Imran Khan’s “Undemocratic Behaviour” Could Lead to Political Exclusion

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has criticised the political tactics of Imran Khan, stating that persistent “undemocratic behaviour” may result in his removal from Pakistan’s political sphere. According to Sanaullah, Khan’s repeated avoidance of dialogue and confrontational stance have eroded democratic norms and strained state institutions .

Sanaullah alleges that Khan “insisted on avoiding dialogue, striving for a political landscape where only his party remained dominant,” demonstrating a disregard for pluralism. He added that such actions create an environment where either Khan or his opponents cannot coexist politically without one eliminating the other.

The minister’s remarks follow his May 2023 appeal urging the public to “minus Imran from politics with the power of vote”. Sanaullah emphasised that sustained defiance of democratic practice and constitutional principles could ultimately disqualify Khan from the political process.

Despite these criticisms, Sanaullah has also indicated that reconciliation remains possible. In April 2025, he reiterated that political negotiations, including potential engagement with PTI, are essential to resolving the country’s crisis. He stated that dialogue will proceed only if both sides are willing to act democratically and abide by shared constitutional commitments.
