A special investigation team has been constituted by Sindh police to probe the disturbing and mysterious death of actress and visual artist Humaira Asghar Ali, whose decomposed body was found in her Karachi apartment after being undiscovered for at least eight months.
Humaira, once active in theatre, film, and socially conscious television, had lived a quiet life in recent years. Her remains were found earlier this week under unknown circumstances, sparking shock across Pakistan’s entertainment community.

A post-mortem conducted by police surgeon Summaiya Syed confirmed that the body was in an advanced state of decomposition, making it impossible to determine the cause of death. Whether Humaira’s death was natural, accidental, suicidal, or a case of foul play remains unclear, prompting police to escalate the investigation.
According to a police notification dated July 11, a five-member team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Imran Ali Jagrani has been assigned to uncover the truth. The investigation will be supervised daily, with progress reports submitted to the SSP South’s office.
Initially, the case took a controversial turn when her family reportedly refused to claim the body. However, her brother Naveed Asghar later arrived in Karachi, clarifying that the family had remained in contact with police and the Chhipa Foundation, and that the delay was procedural. He criticized the media for misrepresenting their stance during a sensitive period.
Humaira was laid to rest in Lahore’s Model Town Q Block graveyard on Friday. The funeral was sparsely attended, adding to the tragic narrative of a woman who had once worked alongside prominent cultural figures such as Amjad Islam Amjad and Qavi Khan.
With her background in fine arts from Punjab University and involvement in socially relevant storytelling through theater and television, Humaira leaves behind a legacy that is now shrouded in unanswered questions.
The case remains open as police pursue every possible lead to determine how and why her life ended in such tragic obscurity.
