In a solemn ceremony held at Chaklala Garrison in Rawalpindi, Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir attended the funeral of Major Syed Moiz Abbas Shah, a decorated officer who embraced martyrdom during an intelligence-based operation against militants in South Waziristan.
Major Shah, 37, was leading a Special Services Group (SSG) unit when he lost his life during a firefight with militants in Sararogha. His heroic actions in combat neutralized multiple threats, contributing significantly to the mission’s success. Alongside him, another brave soldier, Lance Naik Jibran Ullah, also gave his life in service to the country.

Shah was widely known for his role in the 2019 Indo-Pak aerial standoff, where he was credited with capturing Indian Air Force pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. Then serving as a Captain, his disciplined conduct and professional handling of the situation earned him national admiration and later, a promotion to Major.
The funeral was marked by full military honors. Field Marshal Asim Munir personally attended, offering condolences to the bereaved family and paying tribute to the fallen officer. In a statement made at the funeral, Munir praised Major Shah’s unwavering courage and patriotism, emphasizing that his sacrifice will not be forgotten.
Government leaders also extended their condolences, recognizing Shah’s legacy in both external defense and internal security operations.
