Islamabad, May 29, 2025 — Amid swirling speculations regarding a potential delay due to the upcoming Eid-ul Azha holidays, Adviser to the Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad has reaffirmed that the federal budget for the fiscal year 2025–26 will be presented as scheduled on June 10, 2025. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Schehzad emphasized, “As communicated earlier, the upcoming Federal Budget FY26 is on schedule to be announced on June 10, 2025.”
Complementing this announcement, Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal addressed the media, stating unequivocally, “The federal budget will be presented on June 10.” This clarification comes in response to media reports suggesting a possible rescheduling of the budget due to Eid-ul Azha, which is anticipated to fall on June 7, making June 9—the day slated for the release of the Pakistan Economic Survey FY25—the third day of Eid.
The budget’s timing is particularly significant as Pakistan continues its negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a new bailout package estimated between $6 billion to $8 billion. The government aims to present a “strategic” budget that aligns with IMF guidelines, focusing on fiscal prudence and economic reforms.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal had earlier indicated that the federal budget would be presented on June 2, with a 16% reduction in development allocation to Rs921 billion, potentially leading to the closure of about 200 ongoing development projects. However, the date was later adjusted to June 10 to accommodate ongoing discussions with the IMF and the Eid holidays.
The upcoming budget is expected to address key economic challenges, including a widening trade deficit, declining foreign direct investment, and the need for structural reforms in taxation and public spending. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has expressed the government’s commitment to shifting the tax burden away from the salaried class and documented sectors, aiming to broaden the tax base and enhance revenue collection.
As the nation anticipates the budget announcement, stakeholders across various sectors are keenly observing the government’s fiscal strategies and policy directions, which will have far-reaching implications for Pakistan’s economic trajectory.
