Pakistan Rules Out Khawaja Asif Meeting Indian Counterpart at SCO Summit

Pakistan’s Foreign Office has dismissed reports that Defence Minister Khawaja Asif would hold talks with India’s counterpart, Rajnath Singh, at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ Meeting in Qingdao, China.

According to an official statement, Asif will participate in scheduled SCO sessions focused on regional security and defence cooperation, but no bilateral engagement with India is planned.

Turkish media had speculated it could mark the first face-to-face meeting between the two defence ministers since the heightened military tensions in May. But Pakistani officials have clarified: no such bilateral meeting is on the agenda.

India’s Rajnath Singh is also attending the two-day gathering, which includes high-level defence delegations from China, Russia and other SCO member states. The event will cover counterterrorism, security cooperation, and military dialogue at a multilateral level.
