PM Shehbaz Orders Bi-Monthly Performance Reviews for Ministries to Boost Governance Efficiency

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the performance of federal ministries and divisions will be evaluated every two months, in a move aimed at enhancing governance accountability, public service delivery, and institutional transparency.

The directive was issued during a high-level meeting of the Prime Minister’s Reform and Performance Delivery Unit (PMDU), where PM Shehbaz emphasized a shift from status-quo practices to measurable performance indicators.

Key Features of the New Evaluation System

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the new system will include:

  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for all ministries
  • Bi-monthly review sessions chaired by the prime minister
  • Performance-based incentives and penalties for ministers and secretaries
  • Inclusion of public feedback and service delivery audits

“We must transition from file-pushing to real-world results that citizens can feel,” PM Shehbaz said.

Focus on Public Impact and Transparency

The PMDU has been tasked with coordinating between:

  • Planning Commission, Establishment Division, and Cabinet Division
  • All federal ministries to define strategic goals and track delivery timelines
  • Integration of e-governance tools to improve transparency

The prime minister noted that ministries failing to meet objectives would be subject to corrective measures and public disclosure of their performance.

Wider Governance Reform Drive

This announcement comes amid a broader reform agenda under Shehbaz Sharif’s administration, which includes:

  • Digitalization of government services
  • Civil service restructuring
  • Fiscal discipline and efficiency audits

Political analysts view this move as a response to mounting public pressure for results-oriented leadership, particularly in areas such as inflation control, energy regulation, and infrastructure development.
