Policeman Swept Away in Jhelum Floods Found, Laid to Rest with Honours

Jhelum – July 16, 2025: The body of policeman Abdul Wahab, who was swept away during recent flash floods in Jhelum, was recovered after a three-day search and laid to rest with full police honours.

Abdul Wahab, a constable in the Punjab Highway Patrol, was performing duty at a check post near the flood-affected area when he was carried away by strong water currents earlier this week. His body was recovered from downstream near the Pind Dadan Khan area.

Funeral Attended by Officials and Community

The funeral prayers were attended by senior police officials, civil administration, and a large number of citizens. A police guard of honour was presented in tribute to Wahab’s service.

Officials from the Punjab Police expressed deep sorrow and commended Wahab’s courage and dedication, calling him a martyr in the line of duty.

Flood Situation in Punjab Worsens

The incident comes amid rising casualties and infrastructure damage across Punjab as torrential monsoon rains continue. Several low-lying districts, including Jhelum, Gujranwala, and Sialkot, remain on high alert.

Authorities have advised residents to avoid riverbanks and unnecessary travel during the current spell of heavy rain and flooding.
