PTI’s Gohar Ali Khan Appeals to CJP for Justice After Reserved Seats Ruling

ISLAMABAD, June 28, 2025 — Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has urged Chief Justice Yahya Afridi to rectify what he described as a grave injustice perpetrated by the Supreme Court in its recent judgment on reserved seats. At a press briefing alongside Senator Shibli Faraz, he warned that the “injustice today is worse than it was in the 1990s”.

The Constitutional Bench, by a seven-to-three majority, overturned its own July 12, 2024 judgment (a previous eight-judge ruling) which had granted PTI representation on seats reserved for women and non-Muslims. Gohar condemned the reversal, accusing the court of undermining PTI’s legitimate mandate.

He asserted PTI had followed all legal procedures, including timely registration of 86 PTI-backed candidates under the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) and submission of necessary documentation to the Election Commission. Instead, he claimed, those reserved seats were unjustly redirected to other parties he referred to as “mandate thieves”. Gohar also criticised the court’s refusal to convene a full bench, requesting first to review the constitutional amendment in question .

He warned that the ruling not only disenfranchises PTI supporters but could destabilize public confidence in democratic institutions. “Don’t take your hatred for PTI to such extremes—it will affect the entire country,” he declared

Senator Faraz echoed the plea, urging the Chief Justice to uphold constitutional integrity and ensure justice is not overshadowed by political bias.
