Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has announced that a decision on suspending mobile phone and internet services during Muharram is expected to be made at the “eleventh hour,” depending on the security situation along procession routes. She noted that last year, services remained active across Punjab, but authorities may opt for targeted suspension at sensitive locations this time.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, after a national security meeting in Islamabad, confirmed that any decision will be taken “in consultation with the provinces”. He emphasized that stricter measures—including Section 144 enforcement and a potential ban on pillion riding—are already in place to ensure peace during Muharram observances.
Bokhari reiterated that the final call will rest with the chief minister, based on updated security reports. She also disclosed that a ruling on possible restrictions regarding pillion riders will be announced shortly, highlighting the province’s adaptive response to unfolding conditions
