The Central Ruet‑e‑Hilal Committee has declared that the crescent moon for Safar 1447 AH was not sighted across Pakistan on the evening of Friday, 25 July 2025. As a result, Sunday, 27 July 2025 will be observed as the first day of Safar‑ul‑Muzaffar.

Chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the committee convened at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Islamabad, reviewing reports from zonal committees in all provincial capitals. No credible eyewitness testimony was received during the nationwide sighting sessions, leading to the confirmation of Saturday, 26 July as the 30th of Muharram‑ul‑Haram and Sunday, 27 July as the start of Safar.
Earlier scientific forecasts by SUPARCO had indicated that the new moon would occur at 12:11 AM PST on 25 July, making the crescent approximately 19 hours 31 minutes old at sunset—technically meeting visibility standards. However, the moonset‑sunset interval of only 43 minutes in coastal regions, combined with widespread monsoon clouds, made reliable sighting nearly impossible.
With unfavorable weather, a narrow visibility window, and no moon‑sighting reports, the committee’s decision aligns with established religious protocols. Preparations and religious observances marking the beginning of Safar are now set to begin on Sunday as scheduled.
