‘Soul of Pakistan’: Fatima Jinnah Series Wraps Production, Set to Illuminate Untold Chapters of History
The much-anticipated historical drama series Soul of Pakistan, centered on the life of Fatima Jinnah, has officially completed production. Directed by Danyal K. Afzal, the series aims to present a nuanced portrayal of Pakistan’s ‘Mother of the Nation,’ shedding light on her personal and political journey during the subcontinent’s tumultuous partition era.
Afzal emphasized the importance of humanizing historical figures like Fatima Jinnah, Allama Iqbal, and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He noted that while these individuals are often revered, their personal struggles and sacrifices are less explored. The series seeks to delve into these aspects, offering viewers a comprehensive understanding of their lives.
The production spanned over three years, utilizing 92 colonial-era locations across Pakistan, many of which are typically inaccessible to the public. This ambitious undertaking underscores the team’s commitment to authenticity and historical accuracy.
The cast includes Usman Mukhtar as Allama Iqbal, Sarmad Khoosat as Mahatma Gandhi, and Amna Ilyas, among others. The series also features portrayals of key historical figures such as Liaquat Ali Khan, Ruttie Jinnah, and Sarojini Naidu. Notably, the series marks the on-screen pairing of Samina Ahmed and Manzar Sehbai for the first time.
While an official release date has yet to be announced, the production team is considering significant dates such as July 31 (Fatima Jinnah’s birth anniversary), July 9 (her death anniversary), or December 25 (Quaid-e-Azam’s birthday) for the premiere. The series is slated for an initial release in Pakistan, with plans for international distribution thereafter.
