Karachi Court Denies Bail to DHA Assault Suspects Despite Victim’s Forgiveness

Karachi, June 5, 2025 — In a significant development in the DHA assault case, the Additional District and Sessions Judge South rejected the bail applications of businessman Salman Farooqi and his security guard, Owais Hashmi, despite the victim, Dheeraj, expressing forgiveness during the court proceedings.

The incident, which occurred earlier this week in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA), involved Farooqi allegedly assaulting motorcyclist Dheeraj following a minor traffic collision on Khayaban-i-Ittehad Road. A video capturing the assault went viral on social media, leading to public outrage and the subsequent arrest of Farooqi and Hashmi by the Gizri Police.

During the court hearing, Dheeraj stated, “It was my fault; my bike hit his car. I do not want to file a case. I forgive the suspect.” He further added that he had no objections to the court’s decision. However, the court observed that the affidavit might have been submitted under undue influence or coercion.

Public Prosecutor Irfana Qadri highlighted that the charges against the suspects included non-bailable offenses such as threatening and humiliating a woman, identified as Dheeraj’s sister, Kalpana. Consequently, the court rejected the bail applications, emphasizing the severity of the charges.

The suspects remain in judicial custody as investigations continue. The court has directed the investigating officer to submit a progress report in the upcoming hearing. The case underscores the judiciary’s commitment to ensuring accountability and the rule of law, even when victims choose not to pursue charges.
